Swag bucks

Earlier this year I did a search for ways to make money with my android phone, so I found some ways and typed out a blog post, but I somehow missed adding Swag bucks to the list because I tried it and I couldn’t figure it out.  I am actually still trying to figure it out, but getting more of an understanding now than I did many months ago.

I started playing with Swag Bucks yesterday, I forget how many swag bucks I had, but yesterday I made 104 sb’s and today I made  414. so now I have 561 just from watching videos and doing surveys and signing up for other websites to do surveys.

I guess I got the idea to go back to swag bucks yesterday because I started doing surveys with e-rewards again.  I got excited about Swag bucks when I noticed their rewards are a heck of a lot better than e-rewards.  Like with e-rewards, the only thing in there that is even remotely interesting to me is the $25 gift card for Game Stop.  Well, that used to only cost $50 in rewards, but now it’s $75.  So let me get this straight, I am doing $75 worth of surveys and only getting $25 and you guys are getting $50 and I can only get 1 Game Stop gift card per quarter?  Yeah, screw that!  I have $66 in my account, so I’m going to do a few more surveys so I can cash in my rewards to get that Game Stop gift card and probably never do another survey with them again.  That’s ridiculous that they are taking that much away from me.

Swag bucks gives you better rewards like gift cards for Target, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Lowes, iTunes, PayPal etc.  Those are rewards that I am very much interested in.  I could get a $5 gift card for Amazon for only 450 sb’s and 500 for everything else.  1,000 sb’s gets you $10 for Target and many others, and 1,500 gets you $15 for Amazon.  2,500 gets you $25 gift cards, PayPal included.  So literally, all I need to get $25 in my PayPal account to help me buy groceries is to have 2 friends use my referral link which is swagbucks.com/refer/xanapus and I could cash that in since I get 1,000 swag bucks for every person that signs up.  That’s a pretty good deal.

I have the 2 swag buck apps on my phone and I’ve been watching music videos and movie trailers and getting 2 swag bucks for every 5 videos.  I’ve also been doing surveys.  I got 100 swag bucks for 1 survey today, and it didn’t even take very long to do.  I also got 300 today just for signing up with another survey website.

You can search for things and win swag bucks.  Like here is a very good example.  On the bottom of the swag bucks website you see a search box that says “Search&Win”.  So I typed Target and it brings up search results, and the first thing is a link for the Target website.  It says “3 Swag Bucks per dollar” which means I will earn 3 swag bucks for every dollar that I spend on the Target website.  So if I spend $25, I will earn 75 swag bucks.  That’s actually not too shabby.

They have daily polls and daily goals.  Today’s goal was 120 and I earned 414, it says I got 12 bonus.  You get lots of sb’s for doing things like checking your credit score, or for signing up for a free trial for certain websites, which I am not really interested in doing.  You can play games for swag bucks, but I don’t know how that works yet.  I think that’s why I didn’t go very far when I signed up because I played games for like 10 minutes and didn’t earn 1 swag buck.  I’m very impatient when it comes to that lol.

I am always looking for a way of making extra money because my current income doesn’t cover all of my expenses, so this is a great way for me to make money every month to help out with the groceries.  I have a PayPal debit card, so if I can make 10,000 swag bucks, I can get a $100 PayPal gift so I can buy food.  Or if there is something I need at Target or on the Amazon website, I will certainly get one of those cards.  Anything helps, and this will certainly help.

If you want to help me out and even supplement your own income, use my referral code to help give me 1,000 swag bucks.  Once you are a member, you too will earn swag bucks by referring people and doing surveys.  It’s a win/win.

Oh and just in case you are wondering, Swag Bucks is NOT paying me to write this.  I wish they were, believe me lol.

I Made a Sale on Yardsellr

On October 25, 2010 By Michel McDonaldIn Books, Products I Like1 Comment

I woke up this morning and ate breakfast then got on the computer.  When I opened my email I was excited because I made my first sale on Yardsellr.

It was a book called “Programming Perl” which was given to me for Christmas 1999 by a former employer.  It was one of his books and I think because I was a mere (temp) employee,  I wasn’t worth a brand new present.  I guess he was thinking “hmmm… what should we give Mike?  Oh look, here’s a book that I don’t need anymore…”

That wasn’t the only thing he gave me and I was grateful to get anything at all.  I wasn’t expecting anything and it was nice that he gave me the things he did give me.  But… it sat in a box for about 6 years and when I started reading (novels) I took it out of the box to fill up space on my bookshelf.  I have no need for this book since I am not a programmer and never will be.

I put the book on my website yard sale and when I put stuff on Yardsellr, I wasn’t sure if it would even sell since it’s so old.  Everything progresses so fast in the computer world.  If you have a computer from the 90’s it’s a dinosaur, actually if you have a computer from 2005 it’s considered a dinosaur.  So if a computer can be a dinosaur that fast then perhaps this book being 11+ years old is definitely a dinosaur.

I sold it for $5 plus I charged $4 for shipping and I’m glad I did because it cost me $3.70 to ship it media mail plus packaging and a tracking number.  If I had charged $2 for shipping I would’ve been screwed.

I just looked at my PayPal account and I already got my $9.  I’ve been waiting all day for PayPal to send me an email saying I got money but never got it so it’s a good thing I looked.  Yardsellr says if you get a tracking number you will get the money right away, otherwise you have to wait 3 days to get the money.  The tracking number cost me .80¢ but it was well worth it to get the money today.

I never thought something of mine would sell so fast, I figured it would take at least a month or 2 (or 3).  Although one sale doesn’t guarantee anything for the rest of what I have there but it’s a start.

The Wait for Kindle 2

On February 19, 2009 By Michel McDonaldIn KindleLeave a comment

While all of the people who have already ordered the Kindle 2 have to wait for their Kindle to be delivered to them, I will have to wait just a bit longer than that.  I simply don’t have the money and in today’s economy I just can’t justify spending the money on something I really don’t need.

I just don’t read that much.  I thought maybe if I had one then perhaps I would read more.  Unfortunately though that probably won’t be the case.  I would probably get my Kindle then read a book, maybe 2 books then I’d probably never pick it up again.  At least for a while that is.

Sure I might buy a subscription to a newspaper and just give it to Darrin to read that every morning and he could take it to Church with him every Sunday (yes, there is a bible available for the Kindle) but for me, I just can’t justify it.

I want it but I don’t need it.  I have lots of books that I still haven’t even read.  I’ve tried to but I just can’t get into them.  And I’ve already paid for them.  What am I gonna do, type them out so I can read them on my Kindle?  I don’t think so.

So what my plan to do is just set aside maybe $20 or $30 every month in my PayPal account and then in a year when I have the money saved up to buy a Kindle if I still want it then I’ll buy it.  But only if I can.  I mean, if I’ve had to spend some of that money on groceries or for emergency bills then of course I will have to use that saved money.  But if that isn’t the case and I still have it then I might buy it.

But given the fact that it would take a whole year (saving $30 a month would be exactly 12 months) to save up the money, by then they may have the Kindle 3.  And who knows what the Kindle 3 will feature.  Maybe a bigger display, bigger hard drive than the now 2GB for the kindle 2.  Color display.  Touch screen to flip pages and to highlight text.  Maybe it might be a little less money by then?

I’m hoping that in a year if I have the money all saved up that when I am finally able to buy one the price might have gone down, our local newspaper will be Kindleized, the kindle will be in color and have touchscreen and have a 20-200GB hard drive.  Because I just don’t want to spend money on something that can only hold 1,500 books, magazines, newspapers and blogs and still be in black and white.

I’m going to hold out for the best and why shouldn’t I?  I’m also going to hype it up to everyone I know so they will be so excited about it that they will buy a Kindle 2 for themselves then they will hype it up and so on and so forth then 50% of America will have a Kindle all thanks to me hyping it up.  By that time, the Kindle 3 should cost $100.
