The LG DoublePlay by T-Mobile

LG DoublePlay

I recently saw the review for the new T-Mobile exclusive phone the LG DoublePlay™.  It showed many of the good points of the phone, such as the amazing multi-tasking ability with it’s dual touch screen displays.  You can browse the internet with the screen above while posting the links to Facebook and Twitter.  Or you can be chatting in an instant message while playing a game or watching a movie.

It has a 3.5 inch main display and a 2 inch sub display.  Does your phone do that?  Mine certainly does not.  Mine has a slide out QWERTY keyboard but the buttons are so tiny that I can barely text with it.  This phone has a very strange split keyboard, which at first looks very difficult to use but the woman who reviewed the phone in the video that I saw today said that it doesn’t take very long to get used to it.  In fact she typed out a sentence in just a few short seconds with not one typo.  I can’t even type one word on mine without making an error.

This phone uses Android 2.3 Gingerbread and uses the Android market.  Ok I have no idea what Gingerbread is but doesn’t it sound cool?  I can just hear this conversation now “Hey, what OS does your phone have?  Oh, gingerbread, that’s cool.”

I spend 16 hours a day on social networking websites on my laptop.  I would use my phone if it wasn’t a pre-paid cell phone.  If I had one of these phones, I’m almost sure I would rarely ever use my laptop, well, except to blog.  I’m pretty sure that if I had this phone, I would never look up again.

How many hours a day do you spend on social networks on your phone?  What about per month?  How would this phone change the way you spent your time online?  Don’t you think it’s worth checking out at T-Mobile?  I do.

Amazon Wireless

amazonwirelessAmazon has added a new service to their website called Amazon Wireless.  This is kind of neat because you can choose your wireless company, which by the way they only have 2 so far which are AT&T and Verizon Wireless, then choose a phone then choose whether you want a new individual account or if you are already part of an existing individual account or family account.

Most of the phones are only a penny and so you basically get a free phone but when you click that you already have an existing account the price may go up to about $50-$75 or more depending on the phone.  I found that certain phones you still get for just a penny with an already existing plan.

I think that’s great that they will give you a free phone if you are upgrading your cell phone but not your plan because it just makes it easier to get a new phone.  I’m sure people don’t want to upgrade because they just can’t afford to so this makes it easier.

I didn’t see any iPhones listed but I did see Blackberry Curve and Blackberry Bold.  They also have some other well known companies like Samsung, LG, Motorola and Sony to name a few.

Now here is my question and I hope someone will find this via google blog search so they can answer.  I have a pre-paid cell phone with T-Mobile.  Of course they don’t offer T-Mobile yet but it says coming soon.  But when they do get T-Mobile I wonder if I can buy a new phone for my pre-paid plan with GPS and Mp3 capability.  I wonder if it would work.  I don’t need internet, I just want to be able to have the GPS and Mp3 along with being able to call people.

I currently have a Nokia 3390 cell phone pre-paid plan with T-Mobile that I’ve had since 2002.  The reason I got a pre-paid plan is for 2 reasons.  #1 being that a friend of ours in Hollywood was always driving to Malibu to visit her mom (this was 1997-1999, she passed away in 2000) and she couldn’t get reception and she was having nothing but problems but to be fair she knows that she didn’t have reception due to the mountains that she was driving through but she blamed it on the cell phone company anyway.  She insisted on getting out of her contract to go with another company and she had to pay big bucks to get out of it which was dumb because she had the same issue with another company lol.  So it’s for this very reason that Darrin forbade me, yes, I said forbade, from getting a contract.

Reason number 2 is that I have a little to no credit score since I never really established credit in my late teens.  No credit cards means bad credit score which means the cell phone companies will only give me a cell phone with the highest paid plan which makes absolutely no sense to me.  They should offer me their cheapest plan so they know they get their money every month.  Also, I’m on disability so I can’t really afford a monthly plan fee.  All I really can afford is the pre-paid because I only pay for minutes when I need them and I don’t use it that much to warrant buying a lot of minutes.

Darrin has taken over the phone though because he needs a phone at work so when he’s driving if he needs to make a call to AAA for a tow or whatever then he has a phone.  Also if he has to call 911 then he has a phone.  He usually uses it to call me at the house on his way home.  But he’s always asking me to go to map quest and tell him the directions that he writes down and I think it would be much easier if he had a GPS on the phone.

Sorry I rambled on but you have to know the full story of why I’m asking lol.  Thanks for your response in advance.

Go Phones

I’ve been doing a little research today trying to find a good cell phone plan for the both of us but can’t really find something that has a good price.  I mean, they are all expensive and I can’t justify spending $100 just to be able to call each other for free when he’s at work or when he goes on his breaks.

The only reason we need these cell phones are so when I’m riding my bike or I’m at the store or at the mall then he can call me and I’ll be able to answer the phone.  I think I might have found a solution to the problem.

AT&T has the Go Phone that is a Nokia 2610 for $30 and it’s a prepaid cell phone so you pay $25 for the phone card and they basically charge you $1 for every day that you use your phone plus .10 cents per minute.  So it wouldn’t be very good for using every day if you are strapped for cash.  But it does have free unlimited mobile to mobile calling which is what we are looking for.  Now, I don’t know if that means that we still have to pay $1 per day with the unlimited mobile to mobile, I’m sure it does.  But that’s ok, it’s only $25 a month each phone.

I bought the cell phone that I have now in 2002 when I first started visiting my aunt in Simi Valley because Darrin would call me and it was irritating her.  So I bought a pre-paid cell phone through T-Mobile and it has served it’s purpose but it’s time to let it go.  The phone got so old that it would just die all of a sudden.  I’d charge the battery fully but the phone would still die.  I ended up buying another one to replace it last year at the swap meet but this one is shutting off while Darrin uses it now too.  It’s the same model so maybe I should have upgraded lol.  So it’s time for new cell phone(s).

The Go Phone just seems like the better plan for us right now.  At least it has a color screen and you can download ringtones that aren’t midi.  I hate those old ringtones lol.

Video Calls

I’ve seen in tv shows where people are using an iPhone and they are talking to each other and they can also see each other. Like in Knight Rider for example. I’m curious if that really is possible. Maybe someone call respond to this question.

Since Darrin has a job now we’re both going to get a cell phone plan and new cell phones. He’s been taking our only cell phone to work but it’s a pre-paid cell phone which means for $25 he gets 2 1/2 hours to talk. He’s calling me all the time and he’s calling other places and I just have a bad feeling about it. He’s going to need a cell phone plan with an unlimited calling feature, GPS and internet. I figured that we could both have them so we can call each other for free.

I’m going to need one too because as soon as I get a new bike wheel I’m going to be riding my bike again and when he calls me I’d like to be on video phone chatting so he can see what the bike path looks like. I think that would be cool.

Anyway, please, if someone can respond to let me know which cell phone has that feature. I’d like to get blackberries but iphones will be cool too. I just need to know which phone is best for video calls. Thanks

Skype for PSP

About a month or so ago Sony added Skype to their Sony PlayStation Portable but you have to buy the headset with the microphone and the remote control. Of course not long after that they created the combination for sale. Before you could only buy the headphones with mic by itself and then you’d have to additionally buy the regular headphones (minus the mic) with the remote control. You need the remote control for it to work.

I have started thinking about how maybe it is a good thing because if you have a cell phone and have unlimited calls that’s fine but I don’t. I have a pre-paid cell phone and so my calls cost .40 cents per minute. It’s especially frustrating when I am roaming. I think I should be able to call out for free on a cell phone like everyone else. Of course with Skype it is only free if you call other Skype users, otherwise you can buy time which is like 500 or 600 minutes for $10 which isn’t bad or you can pay $2.95 a month for unlimited calls (which is about 10,000 calls per month, they added that in there).

But you have to be in a wi-fi hotspot to be able to take advantage of that. I don’t know what T-Mobile has for you to use though. I was given a 6 month free wi-fi hotspot thing with the purchase of the PSP which I have not used yet because I don’t take it with me everywhere I go. I’m thinking that maybe the $10 phone card is a good idea cause I probably wouldn’t use it all the time and that 5 or 600 minutes wouldn’t expire after a month, you keep the minutes until you’ve used them up.

As soon as I get the money I’m going to think about getting the headset with mic from Game Stop and then setting an account up for me. I think it’s a good deal. And I want to see what T-Mobile does for PSP users per month.
