I cut my finger

I have an oopsie whoopsie lol. Last Monday I came home from the gym and I was making a protein shake. I have whole strawberries in the freezer that I put there to prevent them from going bad, but I forgot to remove the stems. So I was cutting the frozen stem off by flicking it with a steak knife. It wasn’t working, so I tried to gently push the steak knife into the side of the stem, and I guess I don’t know my own strength because it went right through the strawberry and an inch of the steak knife penetrated into my finger.

As soon as I noticed I made a huge error in judgement, I said “Uh oh” and my partner from the living room asked what I did. “I cut myself, and I think it’s bad.” He came in and saw my boo boo and said “That looks too deep to just cover with a bandage. Come on, I’ll take you to the Mercy Emergency Room.” I got 3 stitches and they gave me a script for Norco, which luckily I haven’t had any pain, so I haven’t needed to take one yet. I do suffer from pain from my carpal tunnel syndrome, so I will hang onto them because I know I will need them. It’s funny because the woman who stitched me up said I was going to be in a lot of pain that night when I came home, but nope, no pain.

I haven’t been to the gym since I cut myself because I need my hand to right the bike. I’m not about to have a biking accident because of the splint, so I will just wait until the stitches come out. I weighed myself this morning and I’ve actually lost weight. The ER doctor said that the stitches will come out in 7 to 10 days, so I will return to the ER the day before Thanksgiving to have them removed. I’ll start going back to the gym the day after Thanksgiving.

So now I know for the future that if I buy strawberries and if we’re not eating them fast enough and they start going bad to cut the stems off and cut the strawberries up and put them in a freezer safe ziplock bag so I never have to go through this again.
