We Are One

Yesterday, HBO had a concert to commemorate the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th U.S. president.  It cost 175,000,000, yes that is $175 million dollars if you can’t count that high.  Do they realize that our country is in a recession?  This was all paid for by tax payers.  We can’t afford that with our economy the way it is.

OK, I realize the “change” that is happening and I’m glad that a, dare I say, black person (or African-American person) has finally made it to the white house but why make such a huge deal out of it?  I mean, OK I can understand if our economy was a lot better, if people weren’t becoming homeless by the minute but it’s not and people are.  First of all it’s not fair that it was only on HBO.  Tax payers paid for this, they should have been able to see it on NBC or something.  They are paying for something and can’t even see it.  Isn’t that like stealing?

For those who were lucky enough to see it, it was a 2 hour concert starring Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Renée Fleming, Herbie Hancock, Shakira, John Legend, Tom Hanks, Garth Brooks and I don’t know who else.  There were a lot of people performing and reading and Queen Latifah and Jamie Foxx. Bishop Gene Robinson delivers the invocation.  I have to admit that it was quite spectacular.  Garth Brooks stole the show.

I’m all for celebrating someones achievement but this was way above and beyond and way too expensive.  What pisses me off the most is that my sister has been out of work since July 2008 and she can’t find a job.  Why isn’t this money being used to be put back into the economy to help struggling businesses so they can rehire the people that they fired?  And the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger is denying us the tax rebate that Obama is offering the country.  How is that supposed to help me buy groceries and pay bills?  How is that supposed to help my sister get back on her feet?  All it’s going to do is help get California out of debt, it won’t get me or my sister out of debt.

Bridezillas

I was just watching Bridezillas on WE.  Why?  Don’t ask.  But omg these women are either classless or nuts.  This one woman couldn’t stop yelling at everyone.  If she could only see herself.  One of the things she said was “this isn’t his wedding, it’s my wedding”.  LOL ok.  If I was the guy getting married to her I would’ve told her to get married by herself because this isn’t just her day, it’s his day too.

Frankly I don’t see why people are in such a hurry to get married and why it’s such a big deal that they have to spend thousands upon thousands of dollars that they don’t really have.  You could just have a simple wedding at home or at a relatives house who has a large back yard where you can just buy groceries and cook a buffet meal and bake your own cake.  And why spend thousands of dollars on a wedding dress you are only going to wear once.  Just get a nice wedding dress that is under a hundred that you can actually afford.

A lot of people can’t get married you know so I think that they should think about how lucky they are that their wedding is actually acceptable to society before they act so high and mighty about being in such a hurry to get married.  I don’t know the numbers but a lot of marriages end in divorce, especially the rushed ones.

Naughty Words on TV

I’ve been watching TV for a very long time.  At least 36 of my 38 years that I can remember.  I remember when I Love Lucy couldn’t say 1 bad word.  It actually wasn’t until the 80’s when the Golden Girls started saying Bitch.  Then before you know it, cop dramas started saying Shit.  Hey, if they can say it on TV, then I can say it in here.

The cartoon South Park says a lot of bad words like God Damn.  They say it all the time.  That’s like the ultimate bad word because it has God in it.  You can’t say that on tv.  Well, apparently they can because they do and they’ve carried it over to every other show on tv.

Now, this word I know isn’t a bad word, in fact it’s just silly.  Douche Nozzle.  I’ve been calling people a douche bag for years since I was in junior high school, even though I had no clue what it was until high school.  But you know, people have been saying that as long as douche’s have been around I’m sure.

Last night, on Knight Rider, the female lead Sarah called Michael a douche nozzle lol.  I was like OMG I can’t believe she just said that.  Yeah I’ve heard it in the movies but I’ve never heard it on TV coming from a woman.  And I don’t mean that to sound like a double standard so I don’t want to get emails or bad comments but you know, I was shocked to hear it from HER.  LOL

Cake Anyone?

I like cake.  I guess you could say I love cake.  I love cake so much that if I died and they did an autopsy on me they would find that I have frosting flowing through my veins.

I was watching this show on Food channel which isn’t a channel I normally watch because I find myself drooling after awhile lol. This show was called Ace of Cakes and they really do make some cool looking cakes.  I have to give them props for that.  I went to their website to see how much they charge for a cake.  They say that since all of their cakes are different they can’t give you a specific price but they require a minimum of $1000 for all their cakes.

HOLY COW!  $1000?  For a cake?  I like cake but not that much.  Sorry but I can’t afford a $50 cake.  The best I can do are the $15 cakes at Albertsons.  If I were ordering cake for a wedding that would be one thing and even then I’d probably be looking at $200 at best.  But for a birthday party, the birthday boy/girl will have to settle for either homemade or grocery store cake lol.

Tom Cruise on The View

This morning I wake up (late) and go into the living room and the view is on the tv set.  Now normally I’d go back in my room and get on the computer or something because I don’t normally sit and watch this show.  Rosie ruined it for me frankly.  And it’s a chick show.

But I sat there and they announced Tom Cruise.  Now normally I would get up and go into the other room if I heard his name but I sat there and watched.  This is the Tom Cruise that I like and have missed for such a long time.  He wasn’t outrageous, he didn’t jump on a couch or call Barbara Walters Glib.  He did the interview the way he should have by answering questions.

If he keeps this good behavior up he just might get back into the good graces of people and they might start paying to see his movies again.

They asked him about Jett Travolta about medication and seeing a doctor and he said that it simply isn’t true, in fact it’s the opposite, yes the scientologists take their kids to the doctor and get them medication for whatever illness they have.  His whole thing with Brooke Shields and Matt Lauer was that “he” doesn’t believe in psychiatry or something.  But that was probably his belief and not Scientology.  He was basically speechless about Jett’s death.

He finished the show and he was just perfect in this interview, just perfect.  Good for him and I hope things work out for him.

Elf Marathon

The USA channel is replaying the movie Elf over and over and over again today for 24 hours straight.  Imagine, 24 hours of the same movie over and over and over again.

It was an ok movie, it wasn’t wonderful, it certainly doesn’t bear repeating 12 times in a row.  Come on USA channel, what are you doing?  Cable channels repeat the same movies over and over again in the same month so you know if you miss it when it’s on you can see that it will be on again and you can wait until then.  Don’t repeat the same thing over and over sheesh lol.

Rosie Live…

Rosie Live… More like Rosie Dead.

When Rosie O’Donnell was doing movies I liked her.  She was a pretty good actress and a pretty funny comedienne too.  I really enjoyed watching her movies and stand up comedy.  Then she came out with her daytime talk show.  Darrin and I watched it every single day, it was a standing appointment for us, we made sure we watched her show and we both laughed and we thought she was the greatest human being for all the things she did for people on her show.  She was constantly giving prizes away every episode.  Not just whenever but all the time.  She would shoot Koosh Balls at the audience during the show and she was on top of the world.  Then all of a sudden she got tired of it and quit and basically handed it over to Ellen DeGeneres.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love Ellen’s show too but it’s a different respect you know?  It wasn’t as flamboyant as Rosie’s.  Like Rosie had the desk and it was covered with stuff.  Her set up was like the Tonight Show with the desk and chairs.

Then Rosie went on the View for a year.  Boy what a year that was.  All of a sudden she was pushing her views on everyone and not allowing anyone to disagree with her without her temper flaring out.  You know, it’s one thing to have an opinion and feel strongly about it but when you get into a fight over your passion for it then it’s no longer a talk show.  And remember, every action has a reaction.  Let’s say for example the fight between Rosie and The Donald.  What was that all about?  I mean come on.  That year on The View basically ruined Rosie’s career.

Now she started to go back to the fun days of having a variety hour show which I used to like in the 70’s.  I loved the Osmond hour and the Sonny and Cher show.  I loved those shows.  I don’t seem to remember the brady bunch variety hour.  It’s a very vague memory.  And apparently so is the new Rosie Live show because after only a few episodes it’s being canceled due to bad ratings.

I personally haven’t seen it yet.  I don’t even know what time it comes on.  I have a regular schedule of things that I like to watch every weekday and I think that her show cut into that time frame.  I hadn’t planned on watching it though.

I did like Rosie so I don’t want this to sound like I’m putting her down because I’m not.  I’m just saying that her actions on the view is what destroyed this new chance at a future career in this industry and in order for people to forgive and forget she’s gonna have to do a lot of ass kissing and start apologizing for pushing her view on people who have their own opinions and are passionate about that.

Hey, don’t get me wrong, I have views that I’m very passionate about like gay marriage.  I get so upset when I hear people telling me that I have no rights to get married just like a straight person does but I’m not going to let it rule me.  If straight people don’t like me getting married they have that right to think that.  But I also have a right to tell them to shove it up their ass.

True Blood Season 1 Finale

Tonight was the season finale of True Blood on HBO.  I was glad they finally found the murderer and Jason got out of jail.  Poor Lafayette didn’t have a good ending though.  They ended it with Andy finding a dead body in the back of his car (poor Lafayette).  He was such a good character.  Maybe he will come back next year as a vampire though.  The person who was the actual murderer of all the women including the grandmother was the last person I thought would be the bad guy and he deserved what he got.

At the end of the episode they said that they are currently in production for another season which will aire in the summer of 2009 so I’m glad this didn’t get canceled.

Edit: Boy was I wrong, I thought for sure it was Lafayette in the back of Andy’s car but thank goodness it wasn’t.

Ghost Hunters Halloween Live

This is the 3rd annual live episode of Ghost Hunters.  It’s a 7 hour investigation beginning at 7pm and ending at 2am.  The following Wednesday night episode will be a follow-up to show the results of all the EVP and videos from the cameras and the flir.

Tonight the team revisits Fort Delaware in Delaware City to probe the former Civil War post. Guests Amanda Tapping and Mike “The Miz” Mizanin join the hunt. Hosts: Josh Gates and Steve Valentine.

So far after the first 6 minutes they already starting having issues with production.  All of a sudden the screen went snowy bringing back old memories of before cable was invented and you had to fiddle with the “rabbit ears”.  Also when Josh Gates was talking to Amanda Tapping and The Miz you couldn’t hear them talking.  You could hear Josh but not the other 2.  You could hear a lot of Josh’s voice echoing though and hearing Amanda talking sounded like an EVP, you could barely understand what she was saying.  The only people who were able to get what she said were lip readers.

It took about 45 minutes before they actually started doing their investigation which is fine because they showed the tour of the property and they showed how they got there which looks like it must have cost a lot of money, like you could probably buy a decent house in a rich neighborhood for the amount of money that they spent.

Once they went in the camera started messing up and they had just started.  It kept freezing up.  They could have switched over to Steve just until they got it all squared away but they kept going hoping it would clear up which eventually it did.

I also noticed on the Flir that they are 13 minutes ahead of us which means someone set the clocks ahead.  Of course I’m on the west coast so they are 3 hours ahead so it isn’t live for me but still, they were 13 min ahead for the east coasters too.

The cameras are messing up again.  It just happens to Jay and Grant but I think it’s because of the walls of where they are walking through.  They are after all in the dungeons.  You can’t expect good quality video down there.

Edit:  Sci-Fi channel keeps popping up these ads at the bottom of the screen.  Now I realize they won’t be showing a lot of commercials like they normally would, 15 – 17 min of commercials per hour, but the pop up’s are starting to get annoying.  I mean, they could make them smaller.  They take up 1/4 of the screen at the bottom every few minutes.  It reminds me of pop up ads on the internet except I can’t click them off.

I’ve stayed up for the entire 7 hour investigation despite the fact that I woke up at 4am and couldn’t go back to sleep.  I am sooooo tired lol.  I made a pot of coffee about 2 hours ago and of course I ran out of equal and sugar so this is my last cup.  There is only 20 more minutes left of the show so I’m going to tape my eyelids open, I got the tooth picks on hold just in case lol.

So far all that has happened is a strong authoritative male voice telling Jay and Grant “You aren’t supposed to be here”.  That’s all that I’ve noticed so far.  Josh said there were some other sounds like footsteps and knocking but I didn’t hear it.  I can’t wait to see the episode on Wednesday that will reveal all the evidence they found.

Ghost Hunters Marathon

Wow there have been a couple of episodes that I have never seen today on Sci-Fi.  I’ve been watching the marathon since 8am and it’s almost 6pm, the last 2 episodes I haven’t seen before.  I was very impressed in some EVP’s from a hotel in Washington (episode called “Ghostly Conversation”).

There was a room that a princess always stayed in when she visited the hotel, she even brought her own bed with her every time she came and she died there so the bed stayed there too.  Jay and Grant were in the room asking questions and the Princess was responding right away.  Of course you can only hear her respond on the EVP, you couldn’t hear her in real-time.  That’s the bad thing about doing this is you can only hear them on digital tape and not for real.  It’s still really cool though.
