Prayers For Bobby

Has anyone seen this?  This is a movie called Prayers for Bobby, a Lifetime movie based on the true story of a mother (played by Sigourney Weaver) who couldn’t accept her gay son.  Here is the IMDB Synopsis:

“True story of Mary Griffith, gay rights crusader, whose teenage son committed suicide due to her religious intolerance. Based on the book of the same title by Leroy Aarons.”

I watched this movie on YouTube through my Blu-Ray player and boy did I cry my eyes out.  This story is so emotional that I had to pause it a couple of times because I was missing the movie because I was crying so hard.

This is a movie that every religious anti-gay parent and family should watch before they decide to give up on or throw their child away for being gay.

Crocheted Kitchen Towel Topper

Remember going to Grammas house and seeing these on the oven or fridge door?  Ever wondered how they make those?

I always have a towel on the fridge door because… well, that’s what you do, right?  When I’m done with the dishes I dry my hands on that hand towel.  Well I was thinking, I wonder if I could find a pattern for making the towel topper so when I dry my hands it doesn’t come off all the way.

Well I found one and you are welcome.

My search brought me to YouTube which has a full 22 minute video of how to make it from sewing the chain into the towel with the yarn, crocheting all of the rows, making the button and the button hole and then finishing it off.  It’s really not that difficult and it looks so good.

The video on YouTube also has a link for the full instructions which is over on the Art of Crochet by Teresa blog on Blogger.  The video is over on YouTube via the Art of Crochet channel.

My problem is that I have carpel tunnel syndrome which means my hands get numb very quickly and I feel a very painful pinch in my palms so I shouldn’t really work on this.  The problem is that I love to crochet so that’s a huge bummer for me.  I mean, I can see the endless possibilities with this, I can make a topper for a towel for every holiday and for every season.  Like in the summer I can have the sunflower or watermelon towel, Christmas can be the Christmas towels, Halloween, Easter…  If there is a towel for everything then you bet that I would want to make a towel topper for that time of the year.

I found like 4 Christmas hand towels in a drawer too that would look so awesome with the vintage Christmas yarn that I have that has the mixed red, white and green colors in it.

Maybe some day I might be able to do this but for now I can’t but that doesn’t mean I can’t share the pattern and video with all of you crafty people so besides the link above which you can view to rate, comment and subscribe to, here is that video.

Evan Williams Explains New Twitter Interface

I am definitely not part of the 1% of people who woke up today to a brand new Twitter but even if I was, I wouldn’t have known it considering I only ever go to the Twitter website to click my list of followers to follow people back. For the rest of the day I have TweetDeck running on my screen at all times.

Even if I were part of the 1% of Twitter users who woke up with a brand new interface it wouldn’t do me any good because TweetDeck gives me way more than Twitter.com ever did and even with a new UI it still won’t do me as much good as TweetDeck does.

Watch the video below to see how CEO and co-founder of Twitter Evan Williams explains the new Twitter interface…

For the 1 percent of users who woke up to a different Twitter experience Wednesday morning, it was probably the biggest change they have ever seen to the real-time information service. Twitter has approximately 160 million users and there are nearly 90 million tweets sent every day.

Tech Crunch has a good walk-through of the new look. Mashable thinks it will put developers on the platform out of business. We asked Evan Williams, the CEO and co-founder of Twitter about what motivated the changes. Take a look:

O’Reilly Debates Sharpton on Glenn Beck Rally

I am staying out of this debate but I wanted to share this video. Al Sharpton is PISSED at Glenn Beck for having his rally on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday and taking the “mall” away from him.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

Cell Phone Popcorn

I was just sent this video that shows these people with cell phones sitting in a circle on a table with about 5 or 6 pieces of pre-popped popcorn and they each call their perspective cell phones and all of a sudden these pieces of corn just start popping.  Then they show another group doing it then another group doing it all getting the same results, popcorn.

However, I went to YouTube so I can get the video so I can embed it in here much easier than just putting in a link and I found this one instead.  It’s from a radio show called “The Regular Guys” on 100.5 FM in Atlanta, Georgia.  They try the same thing but get no results.  I don’t know if it’s because one of the cell phones was vibrating away from the corn or not but the corn did not pop thus debunking this myth.

There is a spoof video of these guys trying it with a steak.  Check it out it’s so funny.

I went to Snopes.com to get the whole truth about this and it’s false.  The snopes page that I actually went to was about cooking an egg with a cell phone but towards the bottom of the page they showed these videos about popcorn.  They show a CNN news story where they talk to the guy who created these videos for a blue tooth company who basically made this up to sell his product and these stunts are all for a commercial.  Not meant to scare people but meant as a joke and to sell their product.

Update 2011-02-09: Apparently it seems that 2 out of 4 of the videos in this post have become private.  I’m assuming because the people who put the first video up knew that it was fake so they made it private because they were probably getting negative messages.  The last video at the bottom (above this update) is private and I don’t know why.  I do know that this was a hilarious stunt and it should be back up for all to enjoy.
