DO NOT CALL!

National Do Not Call Registry

Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008. Read more about it at http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2008/04/dncfyi.shtm.”

I’m very curious about this because despite my being on the Do Not Call registry since 2007 when they first announced it, I still get calls.

Recently it has been calls from a telemarketer trying to sell us diabetic supplies. First they ask for me by name then they ask how many people in the house are diabetic. The first time I talked to them I said there are 2 people who are in the house who are both taking pills to control their diabetes with diet and exercise and we don’t need any diabetic supplies. The guy I spoke to was satisfied with not getting a sale and hung up. But for some reason didn’t take me off of their list like I asked him to.

The phone number that called was 682-227-6805 and the caller ID said the name was “Texas” but now I’m getting calls from 302-752-1422 where it says Unknown Name. The last time that “Texas” called us was on Sunday 12/12/2010 at 7:36pm. First of all, that’s so not cool to call on a Sunday. Second of all, they have called us for months, sometimes as late as 10 or 11pm.

The other phone number I think we’ve gotten twice already. Darrin chewed them out on the phone, I think last night. It’s his day off, he doesn’t want to get these calls on his day off.

Ok so I Googled the phone number and it shows me this website 800notes.com where you can look up a phone number and you can read what other people had to say about this phone number calling you. The 2nd phone number (302-752-1422) has 17 pages of people complaining about that phone number (see link).

Well, besides complaining about these phone numbers on the 800notes.com website and in here, I will file a complaint with the FCC website. I already went there and started filling out the form but they want to know the last 3 times they called. I can only give them one time because I didn’t log their calls. So in order for me to know this information to give a proper complaint, I’m going to have to type out the date and time they call until I have 3 or 4 times to complain about. Not just on the 302 number but the Texas one too.

It’s already a hassle having them call me, now I gotta log every time they call? Sheesh! I shouldn’t have to do this, you know? I shouldn’t be getting these calls in the first place if I’m on the do not frigging call list! But I will do it because it is my duty to let the FCC know they are harassing people with their constant phone calls.

My Christmas List

Dear Santa Claus,

Hey dawg, long time no see.  I haven’t seen you since the mid 80′s.  Actually the last thing you ever got me was a carton of cigarettes when I was 16 years old.  Yeah, uh, I meant to tell you that I appreciated not having to spend the money on them anyway but that wasn’t exactly on my list for that particular year.  I think I would’ve rather just had a lump of coal.

I’m 40 now and I think I’ve been a very good little boy, go ahead, check  your list there.  See me?

Here is my new updated top 10 list of things that I would like to have for Christmas this year.

  1. A new pair of eyeballs so that I don’t have to wear glasses anymore.
  2. A new pair of hands/arms so I don’t have carpel tunnel syndrome anymore.
  3. A new spine so I don’t have arthritis in my back anymore.
  4. The fountain of youth at least to stop the wrinkles that are starting to form in my hands and on my face.
  5. A new tongue with all new taste buds and all new food cravings so I crave healthy foods instead of junk foods all the time.
  6. Energy and motivation to lose weight so I don’t have sleep apnea anymore.
  7. A new liver since mine has been abused by all the medicines I’ve been taking over the last 16 years to stay alive.
  8. Give me the patience and strength to put up with people who want to bring me down day in and day out.
  9. A closer relationship with my friends and family and maybe even more blog readers.
  10. And finally Santa, I’d like a new dish pan because mine is falling apart.

What did you think #10 would be?  Peace on earth?  I’m already making 9 unrealistic requests, the least I could  do is ask for something practical that might be sold at Macy’s.

Live Go on my CR-48

One of my favorite things about this Google Chrome OS (aka CR-48) laptop is this website called LiveGO. Since the Google Chrome OS is a browser-based operating system, I won’t be able to load these separate programs like Windows Live Mail for my emails, AIM, Yahoo IM, MSN Messenger etc.  I am so thankful for LiveGO because without it, I would have to load several websites just to check all my emails and see all of my buddy lists for chatting.

One of the things I really wanted was to be able to Skype and unfortunately that feature is not available but I read that it will be coming soon as well as some other features like Todo lists, calendars, notes and a quick menu.

The only thing that I really don’t care too much about is seeing Twitter on there because I like to look at lists.  I want to see tweets in their list of importance to me like friends/family, celebs, true blood RPers, gays, mentions and direct messages.  That’s where TweetDeck comes in which I don’t mind having in a different tab.  And actually I keep my desktop on for TweetDeck then do everything else on the CR-48 laptop.

I am really looking forward to LiveGO’s new additions because I really want to Skype with people, especially at Christmas time but since it’s only a week away I don’t see that happening so I guess it doesn’t really matter.

I have to show another screen shot of this LiveGO program showing some emails and my buddy list (everyone blurred out) as well as the dashboard.

Notice how the buddy list on the right shows Google talk and Facebook buddies?  It also shows my AIM and Yahoo IM buddies.  I can’t connect with my MSN buddy list since I connect to Windows Live Messenger via my Gmail email address.  I guess I should sign up for Hotmail so I can make it easier so I can see those buddies too.

In the left you see all of my services that I have connected, Twitter is connected but signed out.  It shows in my Gmail and Yahoo Mail the number of emails I have so I know if I have email.  Then in the middle, on the top it shows my actual emails (in this case spam) and the bottom it shows my social feeds from Facebook.  If I had Twitter signed in you would see that but I signed out because it scrolls so fast from all 2000 people I follow tweeting every second.

So that is what I’m using now instead of many different websites and/or programs.  I am all set to spend the next 6 months in Google Chrome heaven on my CR-48.

Stocking Nearly Finished

I am very happy to say that this stocking is almost done. Yesterday I was working on the white of the stomach and hands and then I did a lot of the scarf but not all of it. Today I finished the scarf, hat and book. What… an ordeal.

I was hoping to finish the broom and the rabbit but my back is killing me. It hurts because of the odd way I’m having to sit to work on this since it’s in a stretcher on a stand. If it were on a round stretcher then I could sit back in my chair and do it then I wouldn’t have back trouble but it requires a bigger stretcher.

If my back feels better later tonight then I may work on finishing the broom but I’m not gonna hold my breath.  My goal for tomorrow is to finish the rabbit (not in picture), broom and start the fox. I officially have 1 more week to get this done so I need to really focus on getting it done with very little mistakes if possible.

Anyway, thought I’d give an update on this.

Tom’s of Maine

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Toms of Maine. All opinions are 100% mine.

I think I was 17 years old when I first discovered Tom’s Of Maine in the grocery store. I was already on my own at this time so I wasn’t expected to use the same product my mother always bought and I was curious about it so I bought it. I was actually pleasantly surprised that it had a very nice smell and taste and I’ve used it ever since.

I think my wicked fresh moment was when I realized I didn’t need to spray any chemicals in my mouth when I wanted to kiss someone because my breath was already fresh even hours after I had brushed my teeth. It’s not a very impressive wicked fresh moment so I’d like to hear about yours. Go to the That’s Wicked Fresh contest page and tweet your wicked fresh moment. You could win a $500 gift card for Target and other wicked fresh prizes so what are you waiting for?

Did you know that Tom’s of Maine is on and ? I’m following them because I like to hear when they have new products come out. They also tweet interesting facts about the earth since they are an eco-friendly product.  Plus they’ve been tweeting holiday recipes.  You should give them a like and a follow, it’s worth it.

Getting Ready for the Holidays

This is the image from my webcam to show my progress so far. It’s very hard to really tell what it is at this point because of the angle of the image but it’s a Christmas stocking for one of my relatives. It’s a snowman holding a broom with a mouse in it. The snowman is wearing a top hat and a scarf and he has a squirrel on his shoulder.

There is a deer which you can clearly see then a rabbit next to him but I haven’t finished him so he’s hard to see.  Then to the bottom right of the stocking is a fox which I haven’t even started. Well, I started his feet but that’s it.

When I finish I will post the finished product so you can get a better image. Yesterday I worked on the white of the snowman stomach and I started his scarf which by the way is not an easy thing to do lol.

I have 9 more days to finish this. Do you think I can do it? I keep saying “Oh it’ll only take me a few days” well it’s been a week that I’ve been working on it but because of back problems I can only work on so much of it at a time before I have to stop. Yesterday I drank a red bull and got a lot more done but not as much as I would have liked.

I still have to finish the other stocking that I made for Jordan with the Santa on the front. Since that one didn’t come with the red felt for the back, I had to go buy some at Michael’s. I cut the piece out so all I have to do is sew it on. But I’ll wait to do that when I can sew this one up at the same time. Yes they have to be sewn by hand because if I use the sewing machine it will screw up the pattern because some of the pattern is right against the edge of where I have to sew.

You know speaking of sewing, I wish that I knew how to quilt because I think I could make some awesome Christmas stockings with that. That would be so awesome.

Anyway, I need to get back to work lol.

My Chrome Apps and Extensions

I am really enjoying Google Chrome these days. This is my Google Chrome front page. As you can see I have a few apps and unseen a few extensions.

The apps that you can see are pretty cool. The top ones are what came automatically in the browser and the rest I added. If I can’t use programs on my desktop then I gotta find a way to use them on the browser only laptop.

Typically when you are given things in a new product, the first thing you do is get rid of the junk you don’t want. Well, I did get rid of something. There was an icon for a Poppit game from Pogo but when you click it, it loads the Pogo website with the Pogo logo but the game never loads. So screw it, it’s gone lol.

Entanglement is a really cool game and I like to play it so I kept it. I’m not very good but I’m just a beginner. You gotta start somewhere right?

The Gmail and Google Talk ones I can do without but I’m not going to get rid of them if I may need them one day. Instead of using those, I downloaded the app LiveGO . It allows me access to MSN, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Yahoo and AOL/AIM all in one web page. For Facebook MSN, Gmail, Yahoo and AOL, it allows me to get access to my inbox and IM. It doesn’t have MySpace or Skype and I really wish they would get Skype on there so I can use the webcam. The IM’s have the webcam button but it says Coming Soon when you mouse over it. Hopefully they will get that up and running soon. For now I can use Google Talk to video chat, although I haven’t had the opportunity yet as I still don’t have any Gmail friends in all the years I’ve had Gmail.

TweetDeck is great. I’ve used that for Twitter on my Desktop so I now use it on the laptop in browser format instead of the installed version my desktop has. I actually like the browser version because the program takes forever to load and the browser loads instantly.

Autodesk Homestyler is such a cool one. You get a measuring tape and measure the rooms in your house and add rooms in the program according to the measurements. Ok I don’t needthis but it’s neat. I can add furniture to each room so I can make decorating decisions. I’m not a decorator but Darrin is so he can use that.

Google Books I added because I’m a book-worm. Although I have a Nook so I don’t need that but I was using it to look up books. I may get rid of it if I need the space though.

Todo.ly is a to do list lol. Yeah I know, lame. I may get rid of it if I don’t use it that often.

Picnik is for photo editing, although they want you to pay for premium features, I just wanted it so I could use it for the webcam. Since I can’t have Gimp on this laptop I needed something but if I really need to make a graphic I’ll just make it on my desktop.

Spider One Suit FREE … It’s Spider Solitaire lol. I can’t imagine a world where there is no solitaire on a computer.

SoopBook is for writing your own book. You can write it in there and invite people to read it and correct your mistakes. Although I don’t know if I want anyone messing with my autobiography but it’s a good way to write it since I am using this as my primary computer.  It also gives me a backup so if my computer crashes then I don’t have to worry about a backup copy.

I haven’t been writing my book at all lately anyway because I’ve been too busy. When I am ready to write again I have SoopBook and/or my desktop to write with. Although I could use SoopBook when we aren’t home and I have the laptop with me so there’s a good reason to keep it for a while.

Do I really need to explain YouTube, Hulu, Google Maps and Scratchpad? I’m sure you know what those are.

I have a few extensions which are on the very top of my browser, to the right of the address bar. I’m using GlueAOLGmail and Yahoo email notifyer so if I’m not in LiveGO then I can see if I have email or not. Then I have Aviary for taking screenshots for blogging (example above).Amplify extension which I use occasionally for blogging and finally After the Deadline which is a great spell/grammar checker, not just for blogging but anywhere you type on the internet.

I am still adding extensions and apps so this is not all I am playing with. There will be more but for now, this is what I’m up to. Playing with and learning how to live with a browser only based laptop, it’s actually not as difficult as it sounds. I’m sure anyone can cut their ties to programs if they really had to. I guess this is an if you were stuck on an island, what program would you bring with you” type of question. Well, in my case I’d have to say the Google Chrome browser would be the only program I need since I can find a way to add all of my programs as web apps.

Ok that’s it for now. I’m tired and my eyes are too blurry from staring at this 12.1 inch laptop screen for the last 16-18 hours lol.
