Movie Macabre with Elvira on My Network

Hey remember Movie Macabre from the early 80′s? Well it’s back!

Elvira is now hosting movies on “My Network” or My45 here in Bakersfield but check the info page on her Facebook fan page to find out if you will get it in your city and what channel/time it will be on.

It says that its going to be on at 12am on Saturdays but I checked and it’s wrong. It says 12pm on the guide but on the My45 website it’s says that it’s on at 7:30am which I also just checked and that is wrong too lol.

I can safely say that if you are in Bakersfield, California, you can watch it at 12pm on Saturday on KUVI 45 which is Brighthouse cable channel 4 or 1004 for My45 HD.

This weeks movie is Night of the Living Dead (1968).

I wonder if Breather will be coming back too lol. Remember him? He had like this vaseline on his face or something and he was always calling her and breathing heavy on the phone and occasionally they would have him on the show.

I watched her show every Saturday at noon when I was in elementary school and junior high school lol. I even paid $12 to her fan club where I had to send a self-addressed stamped manilla envelope (S.A.S.E.) to receive whatever came with the fan club membership. Let me think, I remember an 8×10 signed black and white photo, bumper sticker and I forgot what else. That stuff is long gone though. I bought it in 1982 lol. Oh it had a newsletter too but that was the only one I ever got. I guess it was a standard newsletter that they only sent out to 1 time members who paid $12.

Anyhoo, it’s gonna be so fun to watch her again. I’ve missed her so much.

True Blood Vs Twilight – Which Has the Bigger Bite?

Two of the biggest and most anticipated paromantasy series are making (or have made) their debut this month. True Blood hit the small screen on June 13th with its season 3 premiere, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse hits the big screen on June 30th. My question to you is:

Which is the ultimate vamp saga: True Blood or Eclipse?

The battle of the Twilighters and True Blooders has been raging on, both with huge followings. This doesn’t mean that the Twilighters aren’t fans of True Blood, or vice-verse – it’s just the debate of which one is the better of the two series, both in literature and on-screen.
Twilighters are fierce in their support, as seen by Twilight’s complete take over at the MTV Movie Awards this past Sunday. True Blood is not slacking in the awards arena, with both an Emmy and a Golden Globe under its belt.

It is also clear that neither phenomenon is going anywhere. Alan Ball confirmed in January that True Blood will be back for a fourth season and Wyck told the Times earlier this year that Breaking Dawn is going forward (still not sure if it will be one movie or two), and shooting will begin this Fall.

So, what’s the verdict? If you ask me: True Blood wins – Hands Down!

Wait! Before you hit send on the hate email you just put together, hear me out.

Don’t get me wrong – I love the Twilight Saga and consider myself a Superfang, but True Blood has it all: Action, Romance, Mystery, Horror, plus it is just plain steamy. Vamps and Werewolves are scary, sinister and sexy – which is pretty much why we love them. True Blood brings this to the forefront making you love them and fear them at the same time. Key Examples: Remember when sensitive and tranquil vampire Bill went a little loco and killed Sookie’s molesting uncle – wasn’t that the sweetest and scariest thing you ever saw?! How about Eric Northman? Do I even have to give you an example? That vamp is walking danger and sex on very long legs (sorry, you can clearly tell who my paromantasy vamp is).

Twilight can be the complete opposite. It does have moments of action, but it is essentially a love story, without the added bonus of gore and suspense. We can pretty much predict what is going to happen from beginning to end. Even the fans out there have to admit that it can also get down right depressing at times! Remember the scene where Bella sat at the window for months after Edward left – ugh. I was screaming at her to get up and get over it already. Sorry, that part just ticked me off. That leads me to the next bit; True Blood characters are just more entertaining. Let’s take a look:

Bella vs. Sookie

Sookie can be ditzy and downright annoying at times, but she doesn’t take crap from anyone (or anything!). She sticks up for what she believes in and isn’t afraid to take the bull by the horns, or should I say the vamps by their fangs. This lady is fierce when she wants to be. Plus, she can read minds and that’s hot.

Bella is the complete opposite. She’s smart and shy, but she is too dependent on others. Come on – Admit it! When she lost Edward, her world turned upside down. She was pretty much the walking dead, which is funny cause isn’t that Edward’s job:)

She stood in that crazy zombie state until she started hanging out with Jacob. When Jacob wanted to ditch her, Bella nearly went insane again – she begged him not to leave her. Not cool! Like I said before, Bella and Sookie are complete opposites. Bella’s power: The vamps can’t read her mind.

Winner is: Sookie

Leading Men

Do you prefer a vamp that sparkles or is completely dead in the sunlight?
Do you prefer a vamp who will recite poetry to you or a vamp that will make you scream poetry in the bedroom (if you catch my drift)?

When you look at the leading male characters of Bill and Edward, determining a clear winner is pretty hard. These two are particularly similar. Two vamps that want to go against the grain and lead “normal” lives. They want to better themselves instead of becoming the monsters that you hear about in scary stories. They are both intelligent, old fashioned and are very protective of their ladies. Both are melancholy and a little to blah for my taste. That is why I am team Eric and team Jacob!

Winner is: Tie. They are too much alike to call a clear winner

Lady Stealer

You can’t have a paromantasy without throwing in a love triangle. Not to worry: Eric and Jacob are here to give us the drama we want.

Eric: Ah, Eric. What can I say about him? He is walking sex, danger and evil, with a hidden soft spot in that non-beating heart of his. Isn’t that an oxy moron for you? He locks up and tortures Lafayette one minute, then saves Sookie and cries for Godric in the next. His character leaves you on your toes at all times. Do you trust him or not? Are his intentions pure or does he just want something from you? Is he hot or is he hot? Okay, that last one doesn’t make sense. The point is: with Eric, nothing is predictable, nothing is straightforward and everything is erotic and sexy. This is why we love him. Men want to be him and ladies; well we want to do much, much more to him;-)

Jacob: He is the lovable werewolf who will die defending the people he loves, especially Bella. He is both immature and mature for his age. This is confusing, but true. When it comes to Bella he is naive, but when it comes to life – he gets the big picture. This werewolf is cute with an edge.

Winner is: Eric. Did you even have to ask?! This one is no contest.

Supporting Cast

True Blood
This is where things get interesting. True Blood has a huge array of characters that are all interesting, entertaining and down right funny. Case in point: Lafayette. Who doesn’t love the flamboyant gay guy who can be your makeup artists, stylist and your bodyguard all at the same time? He dances, wears makeup and can throw a killer punch. He is the manliest guy in a skirt and I love him.

Jason: He is the dumb, hot, athletic blonde brother of Sookie whose main goal is to get laid any chance he gets. He is funny and strong. A trouble seeker, but loyal to those he loves – sweet and incredibly stupid. He is the ladies man whose escapades leave us dying, figuratively and literally.

Tara: She is a complete aggressor. She will take on the world, but is also quite gullible. I must admit that she is not my favorite character and I prefer the books version of Tara to the TV version, but there is also never a dull moment in her life and that makes for great entertainment.

Pam: Eric’s sidekick may not be a regular, but when she is on – she is memorable. She is classy, pretty, snarky, witty and sarcastic all wrapped up with a comically evil bow. This fashionista vamp can take a crowd down in seconds without wrinkling her outfits or messing up her shoes, except when she was looking for Maryanne – wasn’t that part funny. She is also hot, but don’t underestimate her. She’ll eat your kids for dinner – literally.

Jessica: She is the newly made vamp that is driving Bill crazy. She came on the scene and was an instant fan favorite. Why? She is funny and sexy – innocent and wild. Plus, teens are crazy as it is – teen vamps are just insane. Hey, even Eric couldn’t deal with her, and that is saying something.

The Werewolves: They are coming to town this season and those familiar with the novels have already been introduced to them. They are strong, fierce and incredibly hot. For those who haven’t been keeping up with TB news, the character of Alcide has this last requirement down pact. Take a look:

Twilight
The supporting cast in Twilight is just that: a supporting cast – Alice aside. None of the Cullen clan is given the chance to really connect with the audience. Sure you catch a glimpse of them here and get a word from them there, but they are never given the opportunity to shine. They are potential that is completely stifled. Personalities are not really shown and other than Alice, none are really extraordinary. Just to be fair, I’ll go over the Cullen’s anyway.

Alice: She is lively and vivacious. Fierce and lovable (did you see her snap James’ neck – so yes, I did mean fierce). She can also predict the future, which is just awesome. I love her character because she demands attention. She is the cutest, sweetest vamp you’ll meet, plus she has a sense of style.

Carlisle: He is the caring “father” that is the head of the Cullen clan. He is devoted to his family and friends. He is like a doctor vamp angel and you just got to love that!

Esme: She is the “mom” of the Cullen clan and is pretty much the female version of Carlisle. She’s patient, loving and angelic (except for the fact that she hunts and drinks animal blood).

Jasper: He is the newly made vamp who is not as restrained in his desire for human blood. He constantly looks like he’s in pain or smelled something really funky because of this desire to kill.

Emmett: He is the golden boy of the Cullen brood. He’s athletic, modern, loves cars and is super hot. Too bad he only has two lines per movie. At least he is great to look at!

Rosalie: She is the designated bitch of the clan and I personally love her. She is straightforward and is very vocal in her dislike for Bella (although that does change later on). If you want an honest answer and/or opinion – this is the girl to go to!

Winner is: True Blood

Plot
True Blood addresses a number of underlying issues, while giving us the nail biting, hair pulling, adrenaline / heart pumping action that keeps us on our toes. They tackle racism, segregation, religion, and vamp rights in society.

Twilight gives us the typical forbidden romance with the normal background of vamps hiding amongst the humans and battling a few evil human blood spilling vamps that threaten society. The only twist is that they can come out during the day, but even that is not fun because they sparkle, which causes them to hide on sunny days.

Winner: True Blood

Final Verdict
True Blood and Twilight are like their respective vampire bites. True Blood vamp bites are erotic, dangerous and mind blowing, while a bite by a Twilight vamp pretty much leaves you lifeless or turns you into a cold one.

As for me: I prefer hot and dangerous. The Ultimate Winner Is: True Blood!

The fans seem to agree with me. On a poll given on my Paromantasy website, True Blood held the crown with a whopping 90% of voters voting for them over Twilight.

Justin Timberlake Goes Gay For Pay

Justin Timberlake Will Play Gay for Upcoming TV Series – Source PopEater.com

I love Justin Timberlake and I was thrilled to read that he is going to be doing the voice of a gay character in the animated Family Guy spin-off The Cleveland Show. He will be playing Paul who will be the love interest of Terry.

Terry Kimple?  The guy with the mustache?  Seriously?  I never would have taken him for gay.  That surprises me and is hilarious at the same time.

I have mixed feelings about this because on one hand I think it’s awesome that he is going to play any role on a show that I watch but at the same time, a lot of straight people who act gay for a tv series or movie tend to overact the part because they or the director think that is how a typical gay person acts. And yes, sometimes they are spot on certain gay people but that’s not how all gay people act and it comes off as condescending to me sometimes.

When Will and Grace was on the air I didn’t know that Eric McCormack was actually Straight but I thought he portrayed the typical gay man perfect. He couldn’t be more perfect for the role of Will Truman. He wasn’t overly feminine in the show, although he had his moments but don’t we all?

It will be interesting to see how Justin plays a gay character in The Cleveland show when it airs. Either way, my opinion of him most likely won’t change because he is just so funny to me. I loved his SNL music video skit of D*** in a box, that was hilarious lol.

Oh, he’s not only playing Paul but he’s also playing a singing booger.  Rallo’s booger in fact.  That is hilarious and something I would’ve expected him to do.

Land of the Lost Movie

We went to see Land of the Lost today at the movies.  Yeah I know it’s been out for awhile but I can’t just go to every movie premiere.  What do you think I’m made of money?

Ok so I loved it because I watched the show when I was a kid on Kroft Super Stars in the 70’s.  I was rather disappointed that they did change a few things but I think they did it to add some spice to it.  Although I did find it rather disturbing that Rick Marshall was kissing Holly because in the original 70’s show Holly was his daughter.

I did love the woman who played Holly, she was in Pushing Daisies so I already knew I was going to like the movie because she was in it.

Chaka was hilarious getting to second base with Holly lol.  And him getting high with the guys and almost making out with Rick Marshall was hilarious.

As we were leaving the theater all I heard from people behind me was “boy that was the dumbest movie I’ve ever seen” and “oh my god that was so stupid”.  Sorry, I don’t know what to say but I liked it lol.  I have a sense of humor and some people just don’t and they probably weren’t that into the show in the 70’s so they just didn’t get it.

I mean, come on, the acting in this movie was 20 times better than the original series so you gotta give the movie some credit.  Not to mention the fact that they used real dinosaurs, I mean come on, you know that the T-rex is a prima donna.

Wait, one sec…. what’s that?  You say it was CGI?  What?  But I thought…

Oh eh hem… was this mic on that whole time?  Um what I meant to say was the CGI graphics in this movie was amazing.  They must’ve gotten the same people who did Jurassic Park and Walking with Dinosaurs to do the CGI.

Well anyway, I thought it was good so poopoo on anyone who doesn’t like it.

YouTube Movies and TV Shows

I’m a bit behind in the news.  I know that YouTube has movies and TV Shows or they just added that recently.  Yesterday I watched “The Blue Lagoon”.  I never saw it.  It came out in 1980 and I was 10 at the time so I wasn’t able to see it for obvious reasons.  It’s rated R.  Not only that but I’d have to be an adult to really get it.  So I watched it and really understood it.  Such a sad and happy ending.

Anyway, they don’t have a whole lot of movies and TV shows yet because they just started but I’m sure they will have every movie and TV show ever made available for all to see.

I usually watch TV shows on Hulu because they have them like the very next day usually after airing on TV.  Sometimes I have to wait a few days after the show airs on TV but it’s not too long.  And you can subscribe to TV shows on Hulu so they email you to let you know a show is on their website so you don’t miss it.

This will certainly put Netflix out of business if people are able to just watch their movies right from YouTube.  Netflix is going to have to think fast and lower their prices and offer unlimited viewing through their website to compete.

The movies and tv shows you watch on YouTube do have commercials.  I was thinking that perhaps watching YouTube movies is like stealing from the actors and the production companies but the commercials probably make up for that.  The Blue Lagoon had like 10 commercials, it was all the same commercial just played every 10 minutes or so.  So that probably pays for it all so YouTube can continue showing them for free.

It’s the same thing as watching regular TV, you still have to watch commercials, but only 1 commercial, not 2 minutes worth of commercials.  More like 1 30 second commercial.  I think that I can handle being interrupted every 10 or so minutes by a 30 second commercial and be able to watch it for free than have to wait for the movies to come in the mail via Netflix and have it scratched and unplayable or have it come to me broken or never even receive it at all.  Which has happened to me by the way.  But that’s another blog post for another time.

All in all I give YouTube a big thumbs up for making it available for free.

I Love You Man

Went to see this movie tonight called “I Love You Man”.  I don’t get to go to the movies too often and when I do and the movie is good I like to talk about it.  Well, even if it’s bad I like to talk about how bad it stunk.  This one was good though.

It’s about this guy who is getting married and he realizes that he has no guy friends.  So he starts to go out on “man dates” to try to get a connection with a guy so he doesn’t look like such a pathetic loser to his fiancée.

I can totally relate though because besides all my online friends, I really don’t have any real friends to speak of.  Since we moved to Bakersfield I haven’t really met anyone that I wanted to strike up a real friendship with.  Well, there was our neighbor Dan but he’s moved away and we really don’t hear from him anymore.  But he has his own “guy friends” that he’s been hanging around with since they were in school.

This movie was totally funny though.  Andy Samberg from Saturday Night Live was so good as a gay guy.  He actually made gay people look cool by not flaming all over the movie.  Good for him.

Thomas Lennon on the other hand.  He was gayer and funnier than ever too.  Everyone kinda expects him to be outrageous though since he is gay as Lieutenant Jim Dangle on Reno 911.

I thought this was a very funny movie and I was laughing the entire time, even when other people weren’t laughing at which point I had to sink in my seat lol.

Wall-E

I finally rented Wall-E.  I was at the grocery store today and went to the red box looking for the Dead Like Me movie but it wasn’t there so I rented Wall-E. I actually liked this movie and don’t know why I waited so long to see it.  It was very touching, I know it’s basically about a trash compactor robot but it wasn’t just that, it was about a trash compactor with feelings, a machine who recognized that he wasn’t just a machine but he had a purpose in life.  Like he was alive.

I highly doubt it is possible for a robot to have feelings because they are just nuts and bolts and a program and unless they are programmed to have feelings, even then the feelings won’t be real because a machine doesn’t have a soul.  If we have no soul we have no feelings. But it was cute to see a machine who did have feelings.

I thought it was hilarious that they think that all humans will be that lazy and fat in the future because it’s probably true.  People will probably rely on machines to do all of their work for them and they won’t have to do any housework anymore.  Maybe even have their machines go to work for them and then get paid for the work that their robots will do then just sit back and enjoy the spoils from the work that a robot did for you while they come home from work and continue to work around the house doing things we’re too lazy to do.

Who knows what might really happen in the future but I am willing to wait and find out.

Dead Like Me: Life After Death

dead-like-me-movieI blogged a couple of days ago about Dead Like Me the new movie from the Showtime show and I just wanted to add a couple of things.

If you haven’t seen the first 2 seasons you’ve gotta check it out.  It’s such a good show.  It stars Ellen Muth who plays Georgia “George” Lass who turns 18 and her mother forces her to get her life together and get a job.  So she goes to a temp agency called Happy Time but she doesn’t get very far.  Especially since she gets killed by a toilet seat from a Russian space shuttle in outer space.

Instead of getting to move on and go into the light, the grim reaper who took her soul gets to move on and she gets to take his place.  She is then forced to take souls until she meets her expected quota then she can move on and go to her lights.  But she is very apprehensive about it.

The reapers live among us but they don’t have the same face they had when they were alive to protect them and their families. But like us they have to make a living which means they have to have lives even though they are dead.  As dead George, or Millie, she gets a job with Happy Time where she went when she was alive and she gets the job thanks to her knowledge from when she was alive.

She is in a group of 4 other reapers.  There is Roxy (Jasmine Guy) who was a meter maid but became a cop, Daisy (Originally Laura Harris, now Sarah Wynter in the movie) who is an actress, Mason (Callum Blue) who is well, Mason.  And then there is Rube.  Rube (Mandy Patinkin) is the guy who hands out the post it notes which has the name, location and time of death so you know who to reap, when and where.

That’s basically the story, George isn’t supposed to interact with her family who she left behind but she does like to keep an eye on them and we as an audience get to see how their lives are going as they mourn the loss of George.

The movie basically follows the show a few years later.  Unfortunately, Rube has moved on and so they have a new boss who is a corporate type.  I can’t wait to see it and find out what happens.  If you like this story then rent or buy it.

If you buy it they will make more movies or they will continue the series on Showtime.  Trust me, you will like this.

Dead Like Me Movie

Last night I found out that there was a Dead Like Me movie.  I saw it on Facebook as an ad in the right side.  I thought it was for the tv series that only lasted 2 seasons but it was for the movie.  So I got curious about it and was looking at the Facebook page and saw a video which was a commercial on YouTube.  It looked pretty interesting.

When Dead Like Me first came to Showtime, I saw all the billboards and there were commercials for it on the Sci-Fi channel and stuff but I couldn’t watch it because I didn’t have Showtime back then.  But then one night I was sitting at my desk a few years ago and it was on Sci-Fi channel.  I was finally able to watch it and I watched the entire 2 seasons I think in a couple of months on Sci-Fi.

Now the movie.  I don’t know when they made the movie but it was released on video a few days ago on February 17th 2009.  Why did it go straight to DVD and not go in theaters?  That’s strange.  The sex in the city movie was in theaters.

I for one can’t wait to buy or rent this movie.  I wonder if the Red Box has it at the store?  There was a video on YouTube where Ellen Muth sounded like she was on the phone leaving a message saying buy the DVD, if you download it instead of buying it you are preventing us from making more movies or possibly continuing new seasons.

Ok Ellen, I won’t download it but in this economy I can’t buy it either.  I don’t know how anyone can expect people to splurge on things like buying blu-ray and DVD movies with our economy the way it is.  I mean if you still have your job that’s one thing, go ahead, help the economy out by buying movies.  But mostly people don’t have their jobs anymore so they can’t afford to spend any of their savings on anything but groceries and paying their bills.  I for one am one of the people suffering from this economy so I definitely cannot buy the DVD just yet.

Edit: I just wanted to clarify something.  When I say I don’t know how anyone can expect… I don’t mean any one person in particular.  I mean like the companies who are putting DVD’s out and the companies who are selling DVD’s.  It’s the same with Amazon selling their Kindle 2 for $359.  How can they expect to sell those right now?  Why couldn’t they wait for the economy to get back on track.  They can’t judge how well a movie or tv show is doing by it’s DVD sales because I’m sure DVD sales have dropped 50% or more.

The Family That Preys

We went to the movies today and saw The Family That Preys.  They said it was a comedy but I didn’t find it to be funny.  I thought of it more as a drama with some humor inside it.  To me a comedy is a movie that you are laughing while watching, I wasn’t laughing at all during this movie.  It was a good  movie though.  I wouldn’t say it was so good that I’d see it again but it was good.
